Inbreeding Coefficient Calculator
Compute the theoretical inbreeding coefficient (F) with the Wright path method to assess how closely related the two parents of a pairing are.
Number of generations from Parent A back to the common ancestor (not counting the ancestor itself)
Number of generations from Parent B back to the common ancestor (not counting the ancestor itself)
If the pedigree contains more than one common ancestor, enter the total number of independent paths (each path is calculated separately and the results are added together)
Reference values
- 25% — parent-offspring or full-sibling mating (F = 1/4)
- 12.5% — half-sibling or uncle-niece mating (F = 1/8)
- 6.25% — first-cousin mating (F = 1/16)
- 3.125% — mating of cousins one generation removed (F = 1/32)
- 0% — no common ancestor within the pedigree
Formula: F = Σ (1/2)^(n1+n2+1). This calculator is for education and research reference only and does not constitute breeding advice.
